The National Planning Commission (NPC) hosted a workshop where Director General Kaire Mbuende said the Climate Investment Funds Industrial Decarbonisation Programme could help accelerate Namibia's economic diversification under the Sixth National Development Plan (NDP6).

Dr Mbuende said Namibia has secured up to $250 million in climate funding to help the country move to low-carbon industrial development.

"This facility is more than a source of financing. It is a catalytic instrument that enables Namibia to translate national policy into practical industrial investments. By supporting Namibian-owned projects and mobilising private sector participation, we can unlock industrial infrastructure and stimulate investment."

Mbuende added that the programme supports Namibia's broader economic transformation goals, including expanding manufacturing and creating thousands of green jobs by 2030.

He explained that the initiative will require sustained investment in industrial infrastructure, clean energy systems and modern production technologies.

Proposed projects under the programme will focus on mineral beneficiation, low-carbon manufacturing, industrial system decarbonisation and value addition in critical minerals.

"Namibia now stands ready to move from policy ambition to industrial implementation. The Industrial Decarbonisation Programme offers a unique platform to build modern industries, strengthen infrastructure, create sustainable jobs, and accelerate inclusive economic growth."

Mbuende added that these investments will modernise production systems, expand industrial value chains and position Namibia competitively in global green markets.

He said the programme will succeed through cooperation between government, financial institutions and the private sector.

"Together, we can ensure this opportunity translates into tangible outcomes for the people of Namibia."

The programme is expected to strengthen the pipeline of green industrial projects, expand domestic manufacturing, and create employment opportunities while supporting Namibia's Vision 2030 and long-term economic goals.
