The Deputy Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs has asked that Namibians prioritise economic freedom as the next phase of the country's development.
Dr. Charles Mubita, in his keynote address delivered at Bukalo, said that political independence must now translate into improved livelihoods, emphasising that true independence cannot be achieved without economic stability.
"We must also recognise that the pursuit of genuine economic independence is the second phase of the struggle; we cannot claim to be independent on an empty stomach. We now need to fight the economic war, and the youth should be the ones to lead that war."
Mubita said that Namibia's democratic progress continues to be highlighted, with the country maintaining a multi-party system that allows for political diversity and open expression on national issues.
"We are brothers, all from the Zambezi Region; we are only divided by politics, but it's not that the politics that divide us do not want us to achieve and obtain the same things. The goal is one: the development and well-being of our people. So when you see Lukato Lukato, you see a brother; you don't see NDP. But when it comes to elections, then we can fight, but we fight as brothers; we don't hate each other, we love each other."
