A family in Tsumeb, mourning the loss of a murder victim, has taken to the streets to urge the court to deny bail to the alleged attacker.

The family of Tangeni Haifidi contends that the suspect poses a significant threat to society, having been out on bail for another serious offence at the time he committed the murder in 2025.

The march took place following the murder of 30-year-old Tangeni Haifidi, who was fatally stabbed with a sharp object by the suspect, Alfred Gaoab, on 29 November 2025.

The incident occurred at a local club in Nomtsoub, where an argument broke out between Haifidi and a group of men, including Gaoab, that escalated into the fatal fight.

Group spokesperson Jacobus Areseb said that "we are opposing bail for Alfred. He must not be given bail. He must not be in society, because he is a threat to our community, and we submit. The late Haifidi was badly stabbed to death on 29 November 2025 at Mzansi Bar Club in Tsumeb, and the incident has caused deep emotional trauma and insecurity within the family and the community."

Gaoab has since made his second appearance before the Tsumeb Magistrate's Court on a murder charge.

He is remanded in police custody, and his case is postponed to 29 July.
