The Easter holiday is one of the most remembered periods in the Christian calendar, as it marks the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

This period is also about family bonding through various activities.

Spiritual leaders from Keetmanshoop says Easter holiday is a cornerstone of the Christian life.

"If it was not for the cross, if it was not for the resurrection, there would not be any Christianity. The cross is the centre in the Christian life; without the cross, without the resurrection Sunday, without Jesus, we are the poorest, but with Jesus, we are more than conquerors. The cross is significant to Jesus; the cross is significant to hope; the resurrection Sunday tells us there is life beyond this physical life; there is eternity," says Christa Biwa, a pastor at Nicolas AME Church.

Deacon of Our Lady Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Michael Wimmerth, highlighted that "for me to come share a message for Easter to see this significant weekend, this wonderful weekend, as a sign and weekend of love that Christ has for us as human beings, despite our sinful choices we have outside, he sacrificed his only begotten son to die for us, and the blood of Jesus Christ was never in vain." That's why we are looking forward to spending this special moment with him, this quality time with him, to acknowledge what he has done for us."

However, both spiritual leaders emphasised that although church attendance may be lower as people attend to other commitments, Easter remains a deeply spiritual celebration.
