As the nation reflects during this Easter period, a cloud of sorrow has fallen over the Anglican Diocese's community following the death of Reverend Suoma Hamalwa-Shilungamwa.

The 40-year-old Hamalwa-Shilungamwa, who died in a motor vehicle accident near Arandis last week, was a Priest-in-Charge of Mondesa Parish at Swakopmund.

The Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Namibia, Patrick Djuulume, in a statement, described the late Hamalwa-Shilungamwa as a devoted priest who faithfully served the church from her early formation through to her ordination as a priest in 2020.

Djuulume added that her life was marked by humility, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to the mission of God, and that she died while returning from ministry, reflecting a life wholly given to Christian service.

Fillomena Albertina Pedro, a young and active member of the church, too, died in the same car accident.

The statement says the 37-year-old participated faithfully in the life and mission of the Church.

The loss of the two hits a heavy blow, stressed Bishop Djuulume, as it came during the sacred season of Lent into Holy Week.

Amenenge Shikwambi, Parish Priest at St Mathews in Walvis Bay, described the late Hamalwa-Shilungamwa as a priest who was full of love and had a passion for children.

Her work was a testament to her popular Sunday school services.

She remembers her as a dreamer who strived for new opportunities and had her church at heart.

Late Pedro will be buried in Swakopmund on Saturday.

Reverend Hamalwa-Shilungamwa's memorial is slated for next Friday at Ondukuta Village in the Omusati Region, with her funeral the following day.
