Yango Namibia has increased its fares by 5% to encourage driver compliance with updated regulatory standards. These standards require all e-hailing service providers to obtain public passenger permits by the end of September or risk ceasing operations. This increase also coincides with the fuel price hike that was implemented on 31st March.

Yango Namibia manager, Alex Mungai, shared the news during a media and stakeholder engagement session this morning to present a progress update on compliance matters within the company.

Mungai stated that the company had appointed 20 to 25 compliance agents and had also offered to cover the cost of the 28-day temporary permits, which are valued at N$850 per driver, while awaiting the processing of 24-month permits. The company currently employs over 1,000 drivers.

He also provided an update on permit applications, indicating that a total of 1,480 applications had been submitted. Of these, 298 were not processed due to outstanding Code of Conduct requirements, 270 were rejected, and 440 received approval from the Roads Authority.
