Netball Namibia says the recently concluded MTC Netball Namibia Premier League competition has shown significant growth in the standard of play, player development, and club performance across the country.

The high-stakes eight-day event concluded at the MTC Dome in Swakopmund on Sunday.

Netball Namibia President Juanitha Witbeen says the overall standard of play exceeded expectations, particularly from teams that initially struggled. She highlighted improved player endurance and competitiveness as key outcomes of the tournament, though she noted that player recovery after consecutive days of high-intensity competition remains a critical challenge that clubs must address going forward.“The biggest highlights for us are player stability and strength. Our players normally do not sustain the high intensity of playing on this level for eight days running, and recovery is an area we struggle with. At the end of the day, if each of our 14 regions can give you one player, that is visibility and inclusivity, ensuring the pipeline continues to grow,” Witbeen said.

Meanwhile, participating clubs reflected positively on their performances during the rigorous tournament. Extreme Eagles vice coach Wilhelm Hango praised his team for achieving its primary target despite the heavy physical demands of the tournament schedule.“It was a bit challenging because you have to play a game per day, especially with the injuries we came across, but we reached our objective. Fitness and court coordination are areas we must improve on; we need to be more clinical and convert our opportunities,” Hango said.

Reigning champions Namibian Correctional Service (NCS) asserted their dominance, completing the grueling tournament entirely unbeaten. NCS team captain Monica Gomases praised her squad's collective teamwork and disciplined performance on the court.“Coming into the Power Week we had one goal, and that was to go undefeated throughout the week, which we were able to accomplish. I am very proud of my teammates. Going back, we just need to go to the drawing board to ensure our physical form and court connections are even better,” Gomases said.

With the coastal tournament now concluded, domestic teams will shift their focus to the remaining fixtures of the Premier League season as the intense race for championship honours continues.
