NamWater has opened the sluices of Naute Dam to release water after its water level surpassed its capacity of 100%.

The public relations officer of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform, Romeo Muyunda, confirmed the opening of the dam's floodgates this morning after its water level reached 116,9%.

The dam received heavy water inflows following widespread rainfall recorded in the ||Kharas Region.

Communities, farmers and other stakeholders living downstream have been urged to remain vigilant and to take precautionary measures as water levels in the rivers and drainage systems are expected to rise.
