The former mayor of Keetmanshoop, Melody Swartbooi, has sought recourse in the High Court to have her withdrawal as mayor reviewed and set aside.

The Landless People's Movement (LPM) in June this year withdrew Swartbooi as its representative on the Keetmanshoop Town Council.

This resulted in her losing her mayoral position.

Respondents, including the LPM Operative Secretary David Eigub, Keetmanshoop Town Council, Keetmanshoop Municipality's Acting CEO, Keetmanshoop Mayor Emrico Blaauw, council member Kalie Goliath and Minister of Urban and Rural Development, were last week served with summons about the Swartbooi notion of review court application.

They were given 15 days to respond.

Swartbooi argued LPM did not serve her with a proper notice of its decision to withdraw her as its council representative nor offer her an opportunity to be heard before the decision was executed.

She requested the court to review and set aside her withdrawal as a council member.

In addition, she wants the appointment of Blaauw to be set aside as well as the Goliath, who had replaced her on the council.

Swartbooi demanded employment remuneration benefits she lost as the result of her withdrawal.
