Omushiyo Mixed Farm, located in the Oshikunde Constituency of the Ohangwena Region, is celebrating a second successful potato harvest.
Working from a rural setting, the Omushiyo Mixed Farm is a shining example of how small-scale agriculture can drive economic growth, create jobs, and fight poverty.
The farm is expecting to harvest 40 tonnes of potatoes during its second harvest.
The impressive yield comes from just one hectare of land that was planted in February this year.
Despite having limited skills and experience in crop farming, the farm owner, Tuakondja Shikongo, says passion and determination have been the driving forces behind the successes.
Selling his produce at the roadside and in local markets, the farmer is not only providing affordable food to the community but also creating opportunities for informal traders and seasonal workers.
His initiative is helping to strengthen the local economy and inspire others to embrace farming.
Beyond production, Shikongo envisions Omushiyo Mixed Farm as a learning centre where learners from nearby schools can gain practical agricultural experience through hands-on farming activities.
