Namibia will host the Uranium Legacy Sites in the Africa Region Workshop, which will take place in Swakopmund from 23 to 27 November 2026.

Speaking during a Cabinet briefing on decisions taken, Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) Minister Emma Theofelus said the workshop will be hosted in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency to strengthen cooperation among African countries with uranium legacy sites.

The initiative aims to promote coordinated approaches to environmental remediation and the long-term management of former uranium mining areas.

The cabinet also endorsed the signing of a Development Cooperation Agreement between Namibia and China, a grant valued at about N$480 million.

“In addition, Cabinet endorsed the signing of the agreement between the Director-General of the National Planning Commission and the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Namibia prior to the state visit of China's President, from the 6th to the 10th of July. The next Cabinet decision is a submission in support of the Republic of Namibia to accede to the Agreement on the Conservation of Albatrosses and Petrels. Cabinet approved the Republic of Namibia, through the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Land Reform, to accede to that agreement, a legally binding international treaty that seeks to halt the drastic decline of seabird populations in the Southern Hemisphere."

Cabinet further approved the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Spain to strengthen cooperation in fisheries and aquaculture through marine research, capacity building, and fisheries management.

Another memorandum included China's Ministry of Public Security to enhance police cooperation, including information sharing on criminal activities and training.

The meeting also considered the outcomes of the 11th Namibia-Russia Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation held in Windhoek in March this year.

Relevant ministries have been directed to implement the agreed resolutions to expand trade, investment, and strategic cooperation between the two countries.
