The National Council Standing Committee on Education, Science, ICT and Youth Development Chairperson, Bethuel Tjaveondja, says he is pleased with oversight engagements that have been undertaken and aimed to strengthen the quality of education in the country.

Tjaveondja made the remarks at the end of a one-week engagement with key institutions and stakeholders in education at Otjiwarongo on Friday.

The committee chairperson, Bethuel Tjaveondja, said valuable information, presentations and perspectives shared at the meetings are a reflection of existing cooperation and commitment among stakeholders to strengthen Namibia's higher education system.

"While the committee has concluded a substantial portion of its consultation, it is important to emphasise that the oversight process remains ongoing. Information gathered from the various engagements is currently being analysed and will inform the committee report and recommendation. At this stage, it could be premature to comment on specific findings, observations or recommendations, as this remains subjective to the committee, the deliberation and the parliamentary process."

Tjaveondja said the week-long engagement focused on evaluating how institutions can contribute to quality education, advancing research innovation, and developing the skills required to support Namibia's socioeconomic development.

"The engagement has also provided an important platform for the committee to enhance its understanding of institutional performance, challenges and opportunity within the higher education, science and innovation ecosystems. The inside gathering will enable the committee to make informed oversight recommendations aimed at strengthening education quality, improving research and innovation capacity, enhancing skills development and supporting effective policy implementation in Namibia."

This National Council Committee primarily conducts regional and national oversight activities across information and communication technology, youth development, vocational training, and formal schooling.
