The 26 Motorized Infantry Brigade Intersport Competition has officially concluded in Rundu, with winners crowned across various sporting disciplines. The event brought together different units from the brigade to compete ahead of the upcoming Namibia Defence Force Games.
Shetwaandha Paulus, the General Commanding Officer of the 26 Motorized Infantry Brigade, praised the discipline, sportsmanship, and overall success of the tournament. Paulus noted that the matches proceeded smoothly with few injuries and were played in a positive spirit, expressing satisfaction with the conduct and performance of the participants.
The General highlighted the units that secured top honours during the competition. The soccer title went to the 26 Brigade Headquarters in Grootfontein, while the 263 Battalion from Oshakati claimed victories in both volleyball and netball. The catapult category was won by the 262 Battalion from the Zambezi Region, with the 26 Artillery unit taking the remaining prizes.
Looking forward, Paulus urged all personnel to begin immediate preparations for the Namibia Defence Force Games. He emphasized that physical activity supports individual fitness, discipline, and wellness, encouraging members to maintain continuous training so they are fully prepared to compete when the national event begins.
Stephanus Gabriel, the Chairman of 26 Artillery, attributed their success to commitment and teamwork, urging his unit to train hard to retain the overall trophy in future competitions. He added that while winning is exciting, participation itself represents a collective achievement. This sentiment was echoed by the unit's Sports Officer, Tjavara Uateza, who stated that months of intense training had successfully paid off, securing them the overall victory.
Reflecting on their road to the soccer title, the Head Coach of the 26 Brigade Headquarters, Frans Amukwa, commended his players' effort and team spirit. Amukwa noted that the final victory served as redemption after losing their opening match 5-3 to the same opponents. Player Hosea Hosman added that the win marks a historic moment for the unit, representing their first soccer championship in 15 years.
With the brigade champions now decided, attention shifts to the upcoming Namibia Defence Force Games in Rundu, where selected athletes will represent the region on the national stage.
