The Severin Kambonde Gabriel Ashivudhi Stadium Management Committee and the Okamwandi community have officially named the local sports facility after Severin Kambonde Gabriel Ashivudhi, honoring his dedication to sports development and community advancement.
Traditional leaders, village elders, and residents gathered at the venue to witness the naming ceremony, which celebrated Ashivudhi’s role in preserving and developing the facility that now carries his name. The occasion also marked the official appointment of Chief Herman Ndilimani Iipumbu of the Uukwambi Traditional Authority as the patron of Okamwandi United Sport Club.
In his keynote address, Chief Iipumbu commended the community for maintaining the facility and reaffirmed the vital role of sports in fostering local unity and development.
"Our people deeply value this field, and today we celebrate its official designation as the Severin Kambonde Gabriel Ashivudhi Stadium," Chief Iipumbu stated. "This infrastructure belongs entirely to the local population, extending service to neighboring communities such as Onangombe Tiikanda and Okakola."
Namibia Football Association President Robert Shimooshili reflected on the history of the grounds, praising Ashivudhi’s solitary efforts to maintain the infrastructure during a period when many local residents relocated to urban centers.
"Tate Severin is the individual who kept this venue functional after many of us departed for towns upon completing secondary school in 1995," Shimooshili noted. "He reinforced the foundational structures using proper metalwork and welding to ensure the youth would have a lasting space to utilize. From 2012 onward, we mobilized collective resources to upgrade these grounds into reality."
Shimooshili emphasized the collective ownership of the project, adding, "This stadium does not belong to any single individual. Local citizens united, contributed their own resources, and today we possess an infrastructure capable of hosting countless Namibians to showcase their athletic talents."
Expressing his gratitude, Severin Kambonde Gabriel Ashivudhi thanked the community and Shimooshili for the prestigious honor.
"I am deeply humbled. From the very beginning, I did what was necessary to keep the field operational," Ashivudhi expressed. "To see those early efforts recognized in this manner is an immense privilege. I look forward to working alongside the NFA President and our neighborhood to benefit future generations."
The ceremony highlighted a successful partnership between traditional authorities, local residents, and sports administrators. Moving forward, the Severin Kambonde Gabriel Ashivudhi Stadium—also known as the SKGA Stadium—is positioned to host competitive tournaments and events for Okamwandi Village, surrounding neighborhoods, and the broader region.
