President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has called on Namibians to emulate the dedication and service of the late Toini and Marco Hausiku, describing the couple as exemplary servants of the nation through the Swapo Party and national service.

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah said this while expressing her condolences to the family of the late Toini Hausiku during a visit to their home. 

Toini Hausiku was the widow of the late politician and former Deputy Prime Minister Marco Hausiku.

Dr Nandi-Ndaitwag pointed out that the Swapo Party School, where Marco Hausiku served as rector with the support of his wife, Toini, serves as an example of leadership that instilled a strong sense of responsibility and solidarity among party members.

She said these values should continue to guide the nation.

The president also raised the importance of national unity, saying Namibia can only achieve economic independence through a united people. 

These, she noted, were principles the Hausiku family lived by and encouraged all Namibians to uphold.

"Some of you are students of the party school that Marco, and of course, assisted by Memi, have set up, where we are tuned mentally as party members as to what our responsibility was to one another. And everything is just around unity. As we say that in the party, united we stand, divided we fall. And when we have people who have fought for this country and who have moulded us in our first years of independence, we should not let them down. We know that their blood waters our freedom, and that should be our strength. As we are now mourning Mem Aosigu, we must have that at the back of our minds. So we must continue to comfort the family until they take our comrades to their final resting place. So what you are doing is the right thing, and continue to do so."

Family spokesperson Peter Kandjimi, who was raised by the late Hausiku, described her as a warm, caring and considerate woman who was a mother to all.

"For the past few days that I've been with her, she's been reminding me to love, love one another, and be there for each other; she's a very wonderful mother.

Toini Hausiku was a member of the Swapo Party and a former Deputy Mayor of Rundu. She died on Sunday at the age of 72.
