The FNB Eagles will face South Africa and Zimbabwe in the inaugural FNB T20 Tri-Series after Cricket Namibia launched the competition at the FNB Namibia Cricket Ground on Friday.

The tournament brings together Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe, with matches scheduled from 28 August to 6 September as part of a regional cricket initiative.

Cricket Namibia CEO Johan Muller said the series is part of plans to strengthen cricket collaboration on the continent and support the proposed Africa Cup competition, which is expected to be introduced next year.

"The significance of this is that it introduces a new concept that was developed in April when we hosted the ICC Africa Conference, where the Africa Cup concept was discussed. This will strengthen collaboration between African countries, allowing teams to compete against one another and create a high-level competition for the top cricket nations on the continent."

The series is supported by First National Bank Namibia, with the partnership between the bank and Cricket Namibia continuing alongside the development of cricket in the country.

"A big part of Cricket Namibia's success story is from the board through to the players. There is good governance, discipline, decision-making and a long-term vision of what we are trying to achieve with cricket. It has been good to have this collaboration, and it continues to grow." Said Conrad Dempsey .

Meanwhile, FNB Eagles head coach Craig Williams said his team is ready for the challenge after recent performances in international competition.

Williams said playing against higher-ranked teams provides Namibia with the experience needed to continue improving.

"As an associate country, you are always looking for opportunities to play countries ranked higher than you. To have Zimbabwe and South Africa make time in their schedules to come and play us is important. The team is in a good place. We have just done well in the Netherlands, and the players will return ready for the challenge." Williams said.

The tournament starts on 28 August, with the FNB Eagles facing the Proteas at the FNB Namibia Cricket Ground.

South Africa will play Zimbabwe on 29 August, followed by Namibia taking on Zimbabwe on 31 August.

Zimbabwe and South Africa will meet again on 1 September, before Namibia faces Zimbabwe on 3 September and South Africa on 4 September.

The final is scheduled for 6 September.
