300 correctional officers have been conferred with long service medals honouring members who served between ten and 30 years.

The Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security Lucia Iipumbu says there are more than 700 officers who will be receiving long service medals countrywide.

Iipumbu further says there are some members who have served for 38 years.

"Others work in the administration of processing of all activities that they have got to do with our main task, which is rehabilitation of offenders. And we are proud of them; we take pride in their achievements, and we want to wish them all the best in their future endeavours."

Commissioner General Raphael Hamunyela is also a recipient of a 30-year service medal.

Hamunyela explained that for one to qualify, a number of factors were considered such as discipline and that there should be no disciplinary offences against the candidate.

"You should have the ability to do what is right, although sometimes you don't want to do it. You do have an ability to respect the laws because no one is above the law."
