Cultural Anthropologist Robert Gordon called for critical re-examination of how San communities have been represented in Namibia's history.

Professor Gordon made these remarks at the recent San Genocide and generational trauma healing dialogue. Colonial records, newspapers, photographs and popular culture, he said, contributed to stereotypes that portrayed San people as primitive, violent or fundamentally different from other communities.

Gordon argues that the terms used to describe San people have historically covered diverse communities and languages while reducing their identities to a single image.

A researcher of San Oral history, Patricia Dinyando, shared her experiences, challenges, and lessons.

She noted that the Women Leaders Centre will soon go into the communities to document San oral history, adding that a lot of research done on the San was not carried out by the San themselves.
