The report of the 19th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers held in South Africa last month was tabled on Wednesday in the National Council.

African health leaders are calling for greater investment, regional cooperation and self-reliance to improve health security on the continent as external funding declines. 

This was highlighted at the fifth Southern Africa Regional Ministerial Steering Committee meeting in Windhoek. 

The Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy (MIME) and the Namibian Standards Institution (NSI) have signed an agreement to strengthen the regulation and quality control of petroleum fuels in Namibia.

The Director General of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) commended Namibia for progress made in the health sector despite challenges faced. 

Dr. Jean Kaseya made the remarks during a courtesy visit to President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah at the State House.

The need for local pharmaceutical production in Namibia and the African continent was emphasised during a courtesy visit to President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah by the Director-General of the World Health Organisation (WHO), Tedros Ghebreyesus.
