President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah wants greater investment in children, stronger protection of their rights and universal access to water, sanitation and hygiene as Namibia commemorates the Day of the African Child and the 50th anniversary of the 1976 Soweto Uprising.

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has urged all Namibians to reject divisive tendencies such as tribalism, regionalism and discrimination in order to build a unified and inclusive society. 

The president says countless men and women sacrificed their lives to attain national freedom and independence. 

The Embassy of Iran in Windhoek says Iran and the United States are expected to sign a memorandum of understanding on Friday.

This follows an agreement aimed at ending more than three months of conflict between the two countries.

The mayor of Ongwediva, Naemi Amuthenu, has been elected president of the Association of Local Authorities in Namibia, deputised by Gobabis mayor, Elvin Gariseb.

The election took place at the association's congress held at Walvis Bay.

The Ovambanderu community and other members of the public converged on Okahandja last weekend to mark the 130th anniversary of the execution of erstwhile Ovambanderu leader Kahimemua Nguvauva.

Nguvauva was executed by firing squad on June 12, 1896, in Okahandja.
