The ageing Kuiseb Collector 2-Schwarzekuppe-Swakopmund water pipeline is undergoing final upgrades costing close to N$84 million.

The water pipeline has served the coastal area for more than five decades.

NamWater has been upgrading and modernising the 73-kilometer pipeline in phases.

Residents of New Cairo in Otavi have raised concerns over trenches dug by the municipality last year, saying they have remained open for months, posing safety risks and disrupting daily life.

The trenches were excavated as part of a municipal project to install water pipelines and sewer infrastructure. 

Erongo Governor Neville Andre believes residents can speed up the construction of the Ozondati-Omatjete water pipeline if they volunteer their services.

The governor attended a groundbreaking ceremony for phase 3 of the Ozondati-Omatjete water pipeline at Ondjombo.

The water interruptions caused by frequent breakdowns and pipe bursts at Katima Mulilo will soon be something of the past.

This comes after NamWater commissioned the water pipeline replacement project on Tuesday.
