President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has described the death of Pope Francis as a loss to humanity, remembering him as an extraordinary leader of faith who led with compassion, courage, and integrity.

The head of the Catholic Church died on Easter Monday at the age of 88.  

Pope Francis has died, the Vatican confirmed in an official statement released earlier today.

According to a statement by Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Camerlengo of the Apostolic Chamber, the Pope died peacefully at 7:35 a.m. this morning at his residence in the Casa Santa Marta, Vatican City.
