The Pretoria High Court in South Africa has set aside its 22 April ruling on an urgent matter in which the Lungu family was granted custody of the body of the late former Zambian President Edgar Lungu.

The Zambian government and the family of former President Edgar Lungu will appear before the Pretoria High Court tomorrow to determine custody of his remains.

Honey Attorneys of South Africa, acting on behalf of the Zambian government, have taken possession of the late former President Edgar Lungu's body from Two Mountains Mortuary, where it has been held for over ten months. 

It is still uncertain when the remains of Zambia's former president, Edgar Lungu, will be buried.
Lungu died nine months ago, and the burial process has been delayed due to court battles between the family and the government.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has issued a subpoena to Two Mountains Funeral Services, where the late former president of Zambia, Edgar Lungu's body, lies, directing that the body of the late former president be released into police custody.

Zambia's Economic and Financial Crimes Court has ordered the forfeiture of 79 vehicles and 23 properties belonging to Dalitso Lungu, the son of former President Edgar Lungu, after ruling that the assets were proceeds of crime.

The Lungu family says it is ready to bury the late Edgar Lungu if President Hakainde Hichilema steps aside.

The family of the late former Zambian President Edgar Lungu has asked the Supreme Court of Appeal to overturn the Pretoria High Court decision to deny them permission to appeal against the earlier lower court ruling over the repatriation of the body.

Today marks exactly three months since the death of former Zambian President Edgar Lungu, but his burial remains uncertain. Lungu had been in South Africa for a routine medical check-up since January, when news of his death broke on 5 June.

The South African Constitutional Court has rejected an application for a direct appeal that was recently lodged by the late Edgar Lungu's family.

However, the Zambian government has insisted on dialogue with the family in light of a balanced burial programme.
