The Chairperson of the ||Kharas Regional Council, Gerrit Witbooi, has called on councillors to unite for service delivery during the regional council's official opening.

The election was necessitated by the withdrawal of the former regional councillor for the constituency Gerrit Witbooi by his former party LPM.

More than 6,675 eligible voters in the Keetmanshoop Rural Constituency are expected to cast their ballots on May 15.

The leader of the Landless People's Movement Bernadus Swartbooi has given expelled former regional councillor Gerrit Witbooi seven days to give evidence that he verbally abused him or face legal action. 

The former Keetmanshoop Rural Constituency Councillor, Gerrit Witbooi, has completed his 120-kilometre walk from Springbok, South Africa, to Namibia's Noordoewer Border Post.

Witbooi was recently shown the door by his party and lost his seat as the constituency councillor.

Another by-election could be held in the Keetmanshoop Rural Constituency after the Landless People's Movement (LPM) recalled its regional councilor, Gerrit Witbooi.

The Landless People's Movement (LPM) has suspended its councilor on the ||Kharas Regional Council, Gerrit Witbooi, for a period of three months.

Witbooi has been on the council since his election as Keetmanshoop Rural Constituency Councillor in 2020.
