Vice President Lucia Witbooi has launched new guidelines and a digital medical assessment programme aimed at transforming the assessment process of persons with disabilities.

The Kunene Governor Vipuakuje Muharukua, has backed plans to overhaul the National Policy on Disability, stating a revised framework will critically improve service delivery across his vast region's most remote communities.

Otjinene Constituency Councillor Eben-ezer Kauapirura has highlighted the need to create a better understanding of the living conditions, needs and challenges faced by people with disabilities.
  

Persons with disabilities who are athletes, alongside organisations, received cash prizes and certificates for their exceptional leadership and impactful contributions to their communities.

The awards were presented at the National Disability Week closing ceremony held in Lüderitz on Thursday.

The Mayor of Lüderitz, Brigitte Fredericks, has called for a more inclusive Namibia, where persons with disabilities are empowered and fully integrated into society.

She made this appeal during the opening of the National Disability Week in Lüderitz.

The government is considering writing off municipal service debts owed by pensioners and persons with disabilities. This is part of efforts to address growing arrears owed to local authorities.

Stigma and discrimination continue to contribute to the exclusion of people with disabilities from the workplace. 

The Chairperson of the National Federation of People with Disabilities in Namibia (NFPDN) says there is a need to address loopholes in the country's national disability policy.
