The gap in the number of girls missing school because of menstruation seems to be narrowing as more actors join the bandwagon, reaching out to rural places.

End Period Poverty and Africa Connection is one of those that reached out by donating sanitary towels to the Baumgartsbrunn Primary School in the Windhoek Rural Constituency.

For the past two years, End Period Poverty and Africa Connection have been molding boys into men and teaching them to care for girls through drama.

This time around, they reached out to children in Baumgartsbrunn, a settlement located 35 kilometers west of Windhoek. Beneficiaries are Baumgartsbrunn Primary School learners.

In its quest to create a better learning environment and living conditions for girls, the organization introduced sewing classes to make sanitary pads for vulnerable children.

The founder of End Period Poverty and Africa Connection, Shaun Gariseb, says growing up in Katutura is what prompted him and his team to come up with an idea to assist needy young girls.

"Initially, we started this initiative because, in our community in Katutura, we felt there was nothing of this nature. However, in the country there are national efforts, but in our neighborhood, in our community, there was a need, so we started mobilizing each other and started doing something."

The principal of Baumgartsbrunn Primary School, Maureen Gariseb, received the donation.

"It is a blessed day for us to be remembered, as many do not know about this community, so we feel so proud to have you here, thinking about us and thinking about our kids that are going through many things."

The organization also shares motivational talks.
