The International Day of Persons with Disabilities has once again highlighted the persistent issue of discrimination faced by individuals with disabilities.
A qualified psychologist and student at the Namibian Federation of the Visually Impaired Center in Windhoek, Meriam Kamberipa, narrated her challenges in job searches marked by unjust discrimination.
Kamberipa has been aspiring to work within communities and assist in developing others.
This is the reason why she decided to take up the field of psychology.
After her graduation, she was looking to change lives, but the world did not give her the opportunity, despite her credentials.
Kamberipa's story reflects a broader concern faced by many individuals with disabilities in their pursuit of employment opportunities.
Those at the Namibian Federation of Visually Impaired engage in diverse activities such as handcrafts and massage therapy classes.
While these activities contribute to skill development, they are also therapeutic.
Councilor Emma Muteka of Windhoek West Constituency aided the Federation with gardening equipment.
The Federation marked the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which raises awareness about the daily challenges and discrimination confronted by people with disabilities.
