Nopal Renewable Energy Corporation held a groundbreaking ceremony at Farm Namseb near Maltahohe, where 500 hectares of nopal cactus will be cultivated for carbon capture and renewable energy generation.

By 2027, the carbon farming project aims to cultivate 5,000 hectares of nopal cactus, with the total reaching 17,500 hectares by 2028.

The Nopal Renewable Energy Company plans to set up mega cactus farms across the country.

The N$66 million nopal cactus project is expected to create about 70 jobs.
