Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel has declared a mourning period in honour of Founding President Sam Nujoma, who passed away on Saturday evening.
Diaz-Canel has declared an official mourning period, which started at 06h00 in the morning, today, Monday 10 February until midnight tomorrow, Tuesday 11 February.
The Cuban President also declared a national mourning period from Wednesday, 12th February from six in the morning until midnight on Wednesday.
During the mourning period, the Cuban flag is flown at half-mast at all public buildings and military institutions.
Diaz-Canel says the late Nujoma demonstrated a special affection for Cuba throughout his life and was a fervent promoter of solidarity and cooperation with Cuba, never ceasing to recognise and appreciate Cuba's role in the liberation of Africa.
Diaz-Canel says Cuba and its people will always be grateful for Nujoma's support in the fight against the economic blockade of the United States of America against Cuba.
In 1991, the late Founding President was awarded the order of Jose Marti, the highest national honour of Cuba.
