The Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) has donated a health services delivery boat to the Zambezi Region's directorate of health.
The boat commissioned by the ministry through its partnership with the United States President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), valued at around N$600,000, is designed to facilitate the transportation of health care workers and patients on the watercourse, specifically in flood-prone areas and Impalila Island.
While handing over the boat, the Health and Social Services Minister, Dr. Kalumbi Shangula, noted the important milestone the donation marks in the ministry's mission to provide integrated, affordable, and quality health care services that are responsive to public needs.
"It addresses a specific challenge of maritime transport. The Ministry of Health and Social Services remains steadfast in its dedication to ensuring that all citizens, irrespective of their location, have access to necessary healthcare services. This boat is a testament to that commitment."
Kabbe North constituency councillor Bernard Sisamu applauded the gesture, noting how timely the donation is and the challenges it will address with the ongoing flash floods and overall difficulties in transportation faced yearly in flood-prone areas.
"This occasion could not have come at a more appropriate time than this, as we have already witnessed in Namibia and other countries the negative effect from rain, which is causing flooding."
