The Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy, Natangue Ithete, says coastal areas hold strategic importance, especially in hosting key national infrastructure.
Speaking at the opening of the 2025 Coastal Trade Fair and Conference in Swakopmund, Ithete said the region's potential in mining, offshore renewable energy, and green hydrogen corridors is central to Namibia’s future growth.
He said the event aims to advance trade, innovation, and inclusive growth along Namibia’s coast.
“This year’s conference, which centres on the theme Unlocking the Power of Coastal Economies for Inclusive Trade and Growth, reflects a strategic focus on transforming coastal regions into engines of national economic development,” said Ithete, in a speech delivered on his behalf by Deputy Minister Gaudentia Kröhne.
“I am told that this year’s expo is focusing on the four pillars: innovation, technology, collaboration, and excellence. This pillar resonates deeply with our ministry’s core agenda: Innovation: Encouraging bold ideas and adaptive strategies to diversify our economy beyond raw exports; Technology: Advancing digital infrastructure and energy technologies that empower local industries and SMEs; Collaboration: Building inclusive ecosystems where large corporations and small enterprises thrive side by side and Excellence: Upholding high standards of service delivery, governance, and sustainability across all sectors,” said Kröhne.
Erongo Governor Neville Andre said the event continues to grow as a regional platform for economic dialogue and innovation.
“This year’s theme resonates particularly strongly here in the Erongo Region – a region that has long stood as a pillar of industrial activity, mining excellence, energy advancement, and cross-sector collaboration. As we look toward a future driven by sustainability and digital transformation, Erongo is ready to lead.”
More than a hundred exhibitors are expected to participate in the four-day event.
