Preparations for the Okahandja Tourism and Trade Expo are about 75 percent complete, with the event set to take place from the 3rd to the 7th of June.

The expo was initially scheduled for the 29th of April to the 3rd of May but was postponed after residents called for a focus on solving recent child murder cases in the town.

After nearly a month of mourning, the Okahandja Municipal Council says the town is ready to host the long-anticipated event.

Mayor Beatrice Katungondo says local businesses will begin setting up on Monday.

"We are looking forward to having visitors from outside the town. We are also going to increase police visibility during that time period. We are going to have police patrols every day, during the day and during the night," said Katungondo.

She added that activities will end at 10 p.m. each night.

"The idea of the expo is not to go until late at night, so all of our programmes are scheduled for up until 10 o'clock. So every evening there will be different programmes that will be happening."

The mayor says the expo is expected to boost the town’s economy and encourages the public to attend.
