The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has warned private vehicle owners contracted for the upcoming Kamanjab Constituency by-election to strictly follow the rules or risk losing their contracts.
Kizzy Dudu-Murorua, the Supervisor for Registration in the constituency, cautioned all 21 contracted vehicle owners against parking near shebeens, bars, or entertainment spots, saying any such violations could lead to immediate termination of contracts.
She further stressed that only drivers officially listed in the contracts are allowed to operate the vehicles. If a change in driver is needed, it must be formalized with a police declaration.
The contracted drivers will be responsible for transporting polling teams across the constituency, based on a schedule provided by the presiding officer. They are urged to obey all traffic laws and must not drive under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any substance that could impair their judgment.
The by-election was triggered by the resignation of United Democratic Front (UDF) councillor Nico Somaeb, who stepped down after being appointed to Parliament for the 2025–2030 term.
A total of 94 election officials have been trained and divided into 18 teams for deployment on June 17.
