A tragic accident occurred today in Gobabis, where a woman lost her life while dismantling metal intended for sale to a scrap metal dealer.

The victim, 50-year-old Josephine Setsisho, was with her three-year-old son in the Kaanan C settlement in Gobabis. She had prepared a fire to burn waste for metal recovery to sell as scrap.

Among the waste was an airbag module containing nitrogen gas, which exploded during the burning process.

Shrapnel from the explosion struck her between the chest and neck, killing her instantly.

Her body was taken to the mortuary for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Her son, who was with her during the incident, was injured in the eye and taken to Gobabis State Hospital before being transferred to the capital due to the severity of his injuries.

The incident is currently under police investigation.
