Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare yesterday engaged officials from the City of Windhoek, the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development, and the Ministry of Works and Transport to address vendors’ concerns.

This intervention follows a letter sent to the Prime Minister by street vendors residing alongside Eneas Peter Nanyemba Road, near the Havana 4-way intersection, in which they complained that their business operations have been affected by ongoing road construction and other development activities in the area.

The joint session discussed the best ways to enable community members living along the under-construction road to resume their business operations while road construction and other development activities continue simultaneously.

The City of Windhoek reported that their officials met with the street vendors on Monday, 17 June 2025, and are in consultation with both the vendors and the contractor, Ongos.

During the gathering, the r. Ngurare remarked that any development must always take into account the views of the affected communities. He further commended the City of Windhoek for the development earmarked for the informal settlement and advised them to always put their residents first, while urging the line ministries to continue monitoring the process until completion.
