The Zambezi Region records an average of 34 cases of gender-based violence on a monthly basis.

According to a regional review by NamPol’s GBV unit, 90% of the victims are female and 10% are male.

However, officials note that the numbers may not reflect the full picture, as many male victims are reluctant to come forward, while some incidents are never reported by both males and females.

Over the last three years, there has been a steady decline in the number of reported cases in the region. 306 cases were recorded in 2022, with 298 cases in 2023, and a further decline in 2024, where 269 cases were recorded.

Concerns were raised regarding victims not reporting incidents while some withdraw cases after reporting them.

This was shared at the activation of the recently launched #EndGBVNAMIBIA campaign by the ministries of Information and Communication Technology and Gender Equality and Child Services in Katima Mulilo this morning.
