As schools resume on Monday, the roads are expected to be busy, and the police are encouraging all road users to plan their trips early.

In a statement, the police are encouraging drivers to inspect their vehicles before travelling to make sure they are safe and roadworthy.

Drivers should also avoid overloading and adhere to all traffic rules and regulations.

The public is reminded that road safety is everyone's responsibility to prevent accidents, injuries, and deaths on the national roads.

Parents are also encouraged to teach their children how to cross roads safely.

The police plan to have traffic unit commanders in each area to run a Back to School Road Safety Campaign.

The aim is to remind everyone to follow traffic rules to protect lives and property, as heavy traffic can cause people to drive recklessly.
