The Speaker of the National Assembly in Zambia, Nelly Mutti, has reserved a ruling on a point of order regarding the elective parliamentary seat belonging to Tasila Lungu, the daughter of the late former president of Zambia.
This was after another MP, Brian Kambita, raised a point of order, asking the position of the Speaker on the seat following court documents filed by the Lungu family, indicating that they do not intend to return to Zambia, regardless of the outcome of the lawsuit in the Pretoria High Court.
The debate was on other pertinent issues following the Speaker of the National Assembly, Nelly Mutti's earlier ban on discussions around the late Lungu's burial impasse.
But Brian Kambita, Member of Parliament for Zambezi East, rose on a point of order regarding the most recent pronouncements by the family.
This point of order was received with mixed feelings.
However, the Speaker reserved the ruling.
In their affidavit of opposition to the Zambian government's lawsuit on the repatriation of the remains of late former President Edgar Lungu, the first respondent, Esther Nyawa Lungu, the widow, has submitted in the Pretoria High Court, among other issues, that she, together with her immediate family, has no intention of returning to Zambia.
