President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has said the diplomatic relations between Namibia and Spain have seen growth in different portfolios, much to the benefit of the citizens of both countries.

Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah hosted the outgoing Ambassador of Spain, Alberto de la Calle, for a courtesy visit at State House and discussed key areas of cooperation over the years.

"I remember when I was at the Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Welfare, a consultant was sent from Spain to work with us to set up the office. Also, economically a lot is going on, not just trade, which is part of the European Union," she said, adding that "Spain has not just been an importer of our fish, but also leather as well as precious stones."

In response, Ambassador De La Calle said, "It has been a privilege to serve as the Ambassador of Spain to Namibia because of the closeness of our relationship and the practical approach of our relations; it has been really business-oriented and results-oriented. I feel also very proud and honoured to have served during your tenure as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and now at the end as President, the first female President of Namibia."
