Swakopmund Mayor Blasius !Goraseb has called on the central government to urgently release more land for development.

!Goraseb warned that the town is rapidly running out of prime coastal property to accommodate growing investment interest.

The Swakopmund municipality, !Goraseb revealed that, has submitted an application for land expansion, but it is still waiting for a response from the land custodians.

He stressed that limited land availability is one of the main barriers to unlocking new local and international investments in property development.

"We are welcoming investors. We also find that there are quite a lot of high-worth individuals who are visiting our town now, so investors from across the world are looking at our town. What we are appealing to the central government for is the expansion of town boundaries, so because we are running out of seafront properties at this point in time, we're just waiting for the approval so that we can expand this beautiful town."

The Mayor outlined several major plans for the town, including upgrading roads to bitumen standards and expanding access to higher education.

He said more universities are expected to be built in Swakopmund in the coming years to reduce the need for students to travel to Windhoek, helping to ease the financial burden on parents who struggle with accommodation costs.

!Goraseb added that these development efforts are expected to boost job creation and stimulate economic growth in the coastal town, making it more attractive for families and investors alike.

"There is a lot of construction that will be coming up. Jobs are being created. Opportunities will be created. It means more opportunity, so we are also expediting land and housing delivery, so we are looking forward to the construction industry growing significantly going forward as we continue to set up portions of land so more and more investors will be building now as we are addressing the housing bad luck. The construction industry is really creating a lot of jobs."
