Oshikoto Governor Sacky Kathindi pointed out successes in the area of electrification.
Speaking during the maiden State of the Region Address at Omuthiya, Kathindi said over N$5 million was spent on electrification at Hedimbi Primary School, Hedimbi Healthcare Centre and three other growth points.
An amount of over N$627,000 was used in electrifying Oshamba/Iipumbu growth points in Oniipa Constituency, while over N$1 million went towards putting up lights at Oniipa Extension Five and Onandjamba Village.
"The provision of electricity at Onaluthipa CS, the church and the growth point in the Eengodi constituency and the provision of electricity at Onandjambayonghalu CS and the growth point in the Okankolo constituency at a combined cost of N$5.5 million, which is currently at 20%."
In terms of water provision, the four-kilometre-long Onakahama Pipeline in Omuntele Constituency was completed, while the 4.2-kilometre Ashingwe Vaino Nelulu and Okakango Onamvula-B water pipelines were also upgraded.
"The water supply situation in Oshikoto, more especially areas east of Omuthiya, remains deplorable. However, recent interventions include the implementation of reverse osmosis for boreholes with saline water."
Reporting on infrastructure, the governor said the Oshikoto Regional Council head office was renovated and water and sewer reticulation systems installed at Onyuulaye and Onayena.
"The construction of the Oshivelo open market is now 65% complete, and the Tsintsabis constituency office has been finalised. Road maintenance near Oshigambo has reached 90% completion, enhancing connectivity."
