Namibia has condemned the targeted Israeli attack that killed six journalists in Gaza, including four from Al Jazeera, among them correspondent Anas al-Sharif, in an airstrike on Sunday, 10 August 2025.

In a statement, International Relations Ministry Executive Director Penda Naanda said, "This tragic loss of life is a grave breach of international humanitarian law, including the Geneva Conventions, which afford special protections to journalists operating in conflict zones. The deliberate targeting of media workers undermines the essential role of a free press."

Ambassador Naanda extended Namibia’s condolences to "the families, colleagues, and loved ones of the journalists who lost their lives in the line of duty. Their commitment to truth and the dissemination of information under extreme circumstances deserves the utmost respect and recognition."

The Namibian government has therefore called on the international community, including the United Nations and relevant human rights bodies, to conduct an immediate, independent investigation into this incident and to hold those responsible accountable in accordance with international law.

"Namibia reiterates its call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the urgent protection of civilians and journalists, who continue to pay the highest price amid the ongoing conflict," Naanda concluded.
