Namibia continues to strengthen ethical business practices and safeguard its future through integrity and collaboration.

The Anti-Corruption Commission, in partnership with the Namibian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, held an Ethical Behaviour in Business Seminar at Rundu.

The seminar was aimed at strengthening business ethics and integrity through establishing robust compliance processes, promoting a culture of integrity, and providing effective training and awareness.

ACC Executive Director Tylvas Shilongo said the event brought together businesses and working groups to redefine corporate ethics and build a strong foundation for ethical business practices.

“We see the challenges our nation faces. Quite often businesses are challenged by corrupt practices. It is a fact, and in this regard, corruption is a serious problem that interrupts development and causes social and economic depression. It stifles innovation, erodes trust and takes away resources that could help our communities and make the most of public services and goods accessible to the large majority of our citizens.”

Shilongo said the seminar aims to drive meaningful change in the mindsets and culture of entrepreneurs, beyond simply opposing corruption.

He explained that the goal is to foster a culture of ethical behaviour – where integrity, honesty and accountability become the core values that guide business decisions.

The Kavango East Governor Hamunyela Hambyuka shared that the initiative reflects a shared commitment to upholding democracy and stability in Namibia.

“Corruption can also happen within businesses themselves, which can harm our economy and society. As leaders in the private sector, we must commit to high ethical standards and work to eliminate corrupt practices in our organisations. Companies can create anti-corruption policies and procedures to prevent unethical behaviour and promote transparency in their dealings.”

The seminar was held under the theme 'Safeguarding our future: ethical business practices and collaborative solutions in combating corruption'.
