The Namibian government, in partnership with NamWater, has embarked on the Ogongo–Oshakati Water Pipeline Project, marked by a groundbreaking ceremony at the Ogongo Treatment Plant in December 2024.

The N$236.7 million initiative will replace the ageing 52-kilometre pipeline, first constructed in 1978, which has, over the years, become prone to frequent bursts, low water pressure, and an unreliable water supply.

Once completed, the new pipeline will guarantee a more reliable water supply to Oshakati, Oshikuku, Uukwangula, and surrounding communities, significantly strengthening service delivery and water security across the Omusati and Oshana regions.

In an interview with NBC News, NamWater Head of Public Relations and Corporate Communications, Lot Ndamanomhata, said water is a foundation of agriculture, industry, and public health, and it is vital to modernise water infrastructure for the benefit of current and future generations.

Ndamanomhata said the project is awarded to three contractors who will complete it in three portions.
