The Eneas Peter Nanyemba dual-carriage freeway is still under construction and has not been completed by the set date, due to various delays.

Although some streets linked to the main road have been opened, traffic congestion still remains a major issue for those living in the western suburbs, especially during peak hours of the day.

The road, funded by the Ongos Valley Development with support from the Road Fund Administration and the City of Windhoek, was intended to be transformed into a dual-carriageway freeway, aiming to improve access and traffic flow in the area.

When interviewed by NBC News last year, the Public Relations Officer of Ongos Valley Development, Abed Erastus, stated that they were confident the road would be completed by March this year.

However, due to various setbacks, the road is still in its first phase.

"With the importance of this arterial road, certain traffic accommodations had to be made. That road serves a large number of people every single day. To close one section of it, you need alternative routes. And this process is fairly cumbersome. It has to go through an extensive approval process. And this sort of caused further delays within the project."

Potholes also continue to be an issue in some areas, and residents questioned why many roads have not been fixed despite the rainy season having subsided.

Public Relations Officer from the City of Windhoek, Harold Akwenye, told NBC News that they have already deployed teams that are working hard to address the issue.

He says the city has made notable progress with the pothole repair programme over the past weeks.

"Our teams are working systematically across all residential and high-traffic areas, prioritising roads that pose the greatest risk to motorists. While resources remain limited, we are committed to restoring our road network and ensuring safer and more reliable mobility for residents. So yes, it is ongoing. We will make sure that each and every pothole in each and every street is repaired. Definitely, before the rainy season comes again, we will make sure that the city potholes around Windhoek  are covered and repaired."
