The UN Security Council (UNSC) has rejected a resolution put forward by Russia and China seeking to delay the reimposition of sanctions on Iran for 6 months.
The proposed resolution comes amid ongoing disputes between global powers and the UN over Iran's nuclear programme.
At a meeting on Friday night, 9 members voted against the resolution, while 4 voted in favour, preventing its adoption.
For approval, at least nine affirmative votes are required.
Following the vote, Russia accused France and other major powers of violating previous resolutions while simultaneously pushing for unilateral sanctions on Iran.
