The construction of a new fence and the renovation of hostels at Suiderlig Secondary School in Keetmanshoop has commenced.

Vice President Lucia Witbooi officiated over the groundbreaking ceremony marking the commencement of the construction for a new fence and the renovation of hostels at the school.

Witbooi said education is a collective responsibility and of paramount importance, adding that stakeholders must continue to invest in education infrastructure.

"It is only through this investment that we can transform our education and make the learning environment conducive for all Namibian children. I am delighted to see that since the launch of this project various stakeholders have pledged contributions to make this project a reality," remarked Witbooi.

The principal of Suiderlig Secondary School, Rebecca Aupokolo, stated that the former governor of the Ohangwena region, Usko Nghaamwa, initiated the fundraising idea.

"We started selling tickets for the gala dinner; we were selling tickets for VIP tables for N$10,000 and other tables for
N$5,000, and most of them came through for the N$10,000 tables and not the N$5,000, and other individuals also bought the other tickets, and we made N$1,000,034 on top. The money came from gala dinner tickets that were sold, the pledges that were made, and the money that was paid into the school account."

The head boy of Suiderlig Secondary School, Remind Wanailonga, expressed appreciation to the sponsors, who also included the vice president and the deputy minister of Industries, Mines, and Energy, Gaudentia Kröhne.

"Through the generosity of our sponsors and partners, we recently hosted a successful gala dinner that brought our community together in unity and celebration. Your continued contributions have also played a significant role in the renovation of our school hostel, creating a more comfortable and conducive environment for learners who rely on these facilities," he added.

Wanailonga further said it's heartwarming and comforting to see how the business community cares to create a conducive learning environment for them and that the government is always there to support.
