Team Europe held its annual year-end media engagement, bringing together ambassadors from Finland, France, Germany, Portugal and Spain. 

The event featured a question-and-answer session and group discussions, allowing journalists to engage with European representatives on issues shaping Namibia-EU relations.

The European Union highlighted that Namibia and the EU remain strong trading partners, with a positive trade balance for Namibia, supported by a diversified basket of exports under the SADC-EU Economic Partnership Agreement.

Through Team Europe, close to N$2 billion has already been mobilised to support key pilot projects and develop future value chains, such as its Strategic Partnership on Green Hydrogen and Critical Raw Materials. 

The EU Ambassador to Namibia, Ana Beatriz Martins, highlighted the strength and evolution of the relationship.

"We can really proudly say that our relations moved from a relationship of a developing country donor to a partnership of equals today, particularly if we look at the trade side of relations, where they are very significant. The EU is the biggest trading partner for Namibia; we are the biggest single market for Namibian goods."

Also, we are the most diversified trading partner; that's quite significant, so it's not just the minerals but also and mostly, agricultural products. Out

She added that the partnership is anchored in shared values, including democracy, ethical governance, human rights and multilateralism.
