The wife of the late Senior Protection Officer Francis Eiseb, who was killed during a robbery at the NAMDIA premises, is demanding compensation.

The state-owned company has acknowledged the claim and confirmed certain statutory benefits but has not accepted liability for the damages sought. Eiseb was killed on 18 January last year at the NAMDIA site during a robbery.

He had been employed by NAMDIA since 2018.

In a demand letter dated 10 December 2025, Metcalfe Beukes Attorneys, acting on behalf of Eiseb’s widow, Shirley Eiseb, and her two dependent children, allege that NAMDIA failed to provide a safe working environment.

The attorneys state that Eiseb was acting within the scope of his employment at the time of his death and that NAMDIA had prior knowledge of a potential robbery at its premises but failed to implement adequate security measures.

According to the letter, Eiseb had eight years remaining until his retirement at age 65, resulting in a claimed loss of N$2.85 million in financial support for his family.

The family is also seeking N$1.5 million for emotional shock and suffering.

The letter states that the family lived near the NAMDIA premises and that Eiseb’s widow heard the gunshots during the robbery.

In addition, the family is seeking payment of N$113,638 for university tuition fees for the two children, monthly student allowances of N$5,000 for each child until completion of undergraduate studies, and medical aid coverage for the widow until the age of 65 and for the children until completion of their studies.

NAMDIA responded to Metcalfe Beukes Attorneys, acknowledging receipt of the letter of demand.

The response, signed by Acting Chief Executive Officer Lelly Usiu, states that the company’s offices were closed at the time the demand was delivered and that the correspondence therefore serves as a formal acknowledgement upon resumption of office.

NAMDIA stated that it is considering the contents of the letter of demand and will provide a substantive response in due course.

The company confirmed that, within the applicable legal framework, certain benefits are due to the estate of the late Francis Eiseb.

According to NAMDIA, these benefits include severance pay, payment of outstanding leave days, pension fund contributions, death benefits, and an accidental claim.

The company stated that the amounts involved would not be disclosed due to confidentiality.

The response does not address the compensation amounts claimed in the letter of demand and does not concede liability for the damages alleged by the family.

Metcalfe Beukes has threatened civil action if NAMDIA does not respond favourably.
