The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) has stepped up efforts in preparation for World Radio Day and also International Safer Internet Day.
World Radio Day is celebrated annually on 13 February, while the International Safer Internet Day is marked on 11 February.
The MICT, together with stakeholders including the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC), has begun community engagements in the Kavango West region ahead of World Radio Day and International Safer Internet Day celebrations.
The celebration seeks to highlight the enduring importance of radio in the age of artificial intelligence while promoting safe and responsible internet use.
During the engagements with community members and learners, officials from the MICT highlighted that radio remains one of the most influential and accessible platforms.
Beyond the airwaves, the conversation shifts to the online world, where opportunity and risk often go hand in hand.
Officials cautioned that while the internet opens doors to global opportunities, it also carries threats such as online scams, cyberbullying, identity theft and misinformation, among others.
Community members, learners and leaders are being encouraged to remain vigilant, safeguard personal information and report suspicious online activities.
World Radio Day will be celebrated under the theme: Radio and Artificial Intelligence, while International Safer Internet Day will be celebrated under the theme: Smart tech, safe choices - exploring the safe and responsible use of AI.
